The Notice Board: Noir, Noir.

Before I leave the scene to Alan Thomas of Noir Nation, let me just invite you to visit  Lisa´s Place where I am being interviewed today. Lisa is a fellow Smashwords writer and a fairly new blogger so please take the time to visit her and say hello.

Noir Nation is a new international e-journal of crime literature with an emphasis on noir.  It is based in New York, but will be distributed to e-readers and iPads world-wide by companies like and  We are seeking literary quality character-driven stories, tales of people who take wrong turns into a noirish maze and find themselves in the darker corners of life in the 21st Century, both in the “real world” and virtual worlds.  We are looking for the writers who will be the voice of noir for the 21st Century.  As our goal is to be fully international, we are seeking stories, in English, from the whole world.  Authors are paid a flat rate per piece and rights revert to the author upon publication.  We also have started Bare Knuckles Press, which is dedicated to e-publishing, so stories which are part of larger collections or which can be expanded into novels can be published as well.

Our goal is to build long-term relationships with writers and eventually publish collections or novels by them on the Bare Knuckles Press imprint.  Besides short stories we are also looking for graphic novels, true crime, essays on the place of noir in the current culture of crime literature, and eventually short films (for the iPad and Android type readers). The deadline for the first issue is June 20, 2011, and for the second issue November 20, 2011.

Please see our promotional video and one of our fund raising ventures.

  1. I’ll definitely be keeping my eye on this one! Thanks for hosting Alan. Great promotional video. Now I’m headed off to read your interview.

  2. Patti Abbott says:

    Sounds great.

  3. Cathryn: as I told Alan, some of my readers would appreciate noir much more than I do.

Patti: I thought of you and some of your folks when I asked Alan to write the post.

  4. bookwitch says:

I just wish Alan hadn’t left so many comments on my blogs that I had to treat them as spam. One sensible comment or a polite contact email would have been so much more appropriate.

  5. Ann: I certainly agree but I have experienced nothing of the kind so perhaps he has figured out how to manoeuvre.
