Guess who or what…

As this novel is a standalone, there is no famous protagonist to describe, but perhaps some of my brilliant readers can guess who the writer is – or even which book it is.

“Her Orlando apartment was cramped and smelly, her dogs mean, her meals inedible. Everyone was miserable, even their father, especially their father, although he pretended not to be and took great offense if anyone suggested that his mother was any of the things that she undeniably was – stingy, strange, unkind.”

But if it proves too difficult, I promise I will add more clues myself.

  1. Beth F says:

I can never get these but nonetheless I love checking out the comments and learning the answer.

  2. Maxine says:

I don’t know, but it seems to be set in Florida so I am guessing Carl Hiasson – but I’ve never read any of his books so it really is just a guess!

  3. Jose Ignacio says:

I think I’ve read and posted about this book. The name and surname of the writer start with the same letter.

  4. Beth: well, at least this author is closer to home for you than many of my other readers🙂

Maxine: I don´t think I´d be able to remember such a detail either, but I picked the book because you had reviewed it. Perhaps José´s clue helps.

José: that is a great clue.

  5. Kelly says:

I’m going to take Jose’s additional clue and think on it a bit longer. Maybe I can at least come up with the author.

  6. Norman says:

Do this author’s books usually feature a city of birds? Orioles and Ravens?

  7. Norman: another clever clue. I mean, according to Google you are spot on😀

  8. Kelly: sorry I seemed to forget you. José and Norman are being very helpful, and if I whisper in your ear that I have reviewed books by this writer before…

    • Kelly says:

Adding your hint and Norman’s to what Jose already said, I believe I at least know the author. 🙂
I haven’t read any of her books. (her, right?)

  9. Barbara says:

Oooh, oooh, I know – but only thanks to the helpful hints.

  10. Maxine says:

Ah, I get it now thanks to the great clues😉 Good misdirection as to location in the quote, Dorte!

  11. Kelly: yes, it is a she. And I warn you: when you have read the review of this one, you may have to try her😉

Barbara: my readers are so very generous (but also very subtle sometimes)

Maxine: you didn´t think that was on purpose, did you? Geography and me ….
