Oliver Bottini, Mord i Zen (2010).
[I did not finish this German crime story – too much vodka and Zen, too little police work for me. As far as I can see, it has not been translated into English]

Ha! Your review made me laugh. 🙂 Vodka and Zen is quite a combo!
Funny the leaps our minds make – I could have sworn I read German crime fiction, and not Finnish.Perhaps I’ve had too much vodka.
I couldn’t stand this when I read it in German a few years ago (I actually gave it away, something I rarely do), so I agree with you entirely! The Vodka and Zen comment is extremely accurate. (Petty Witter, the book is miserable enough to be Finnish, but it’s actually set in Freiburg, which is a lovely city that deserves a better heroine.)
Sounds like it’s a good thing I don’t know more than one or two words in German. When Dorte doesn’t finish it, the rest of us shouldn’t even start it!

Elizabeth: yes it is – but I don´t think the cocktail is any better for crime writers than for police officers 😉
Tracy: I don´t think any Finnish crime story could be as slow as this one.
Lauren: I am glad to hear I am not the only one who felt this way. Some Danish reviewers think it is brilliant because it is so ´different´, but books can be different in any number of ways, and this one was certainly not to my taste.
Linda: actually I don´t agree with you there 🙂 Readers who are interested in eastern religions (and the consequences of vodka) might be fascinated by this one; it is just not MY taste.
