Even though there are a few minor details to tweak, I have decided to call August the first my official launch day of “The Cosy Knave”. Any date will be arbitrary anyway as I cannot control exactly when the book goes up here and there, especially not when it will be for sale via Barnes & Noble, Sony, Kobo, Diesel and Apple.
I know it would be a good idea to have a blog tour, writing one fabulous guest post after the other, to tell the world what has hit it. But as I tried doing something like that when I launched “Liquorice Twists”, I have realized that all the planning and writing of extra posts is just too much for me.
I took another important step as a writer last week. Someone gave “Heather Farm” two stars. It nearly led to instant magistricide, of course, but I remembered my determination never to comment on negative reviews. And after a day or two it struck me that I could check the average ratings of some of my favourite authors on Goodreads. I checked five British favourites and realized they all had lower averages than me.
Now I could have jumped to the conclusion that I am much better than I thought, but the obvious truth is that until recently, I have mainly been ´judged´ by blog friends who knew me already and bought my stories because they liked my writing style. Message to myself: time to grow up!
Finally a few words about my price policy.
Even though I have always felt $ 2.99 would be the right price for my novel, I have settled for $ 3.99. I have three reasons for wanting you to buy via Smashwords, however, which is why my compromise is a higher price but a coupon code for everybody which means you can get it for $ 2.99 via Smashwords.com.
First, Amazon treats non-American writers differently which means that my net income is 25 % whereas I have a net income of at least 49 % when I sell via Smashwords.
Second, Smashwords are smaller which means they don´t have to add VAT. Thus my books are much cheaper for many of my European readers.
Third, I like the idea of shopping via Smashwords. They are extremely supportive of their writers, doing all they can to solve whatever problems we run into, and even though I know I need the giant, I like the idea of having alternatives out there. Competition is healthy.
So to get a lower price for you and more money for me, use the Smashwords coupon PN22N. Please spread the word, it is not just for friends but intended as a world-wide offer.
I can’t wait. I will be there to buy it.
Dorte – I am so excited for this!! I can’t wait to buy it and I will definitely help spread the word!!
Congratulations 🙂 I’m looking forward to reading it and I hope that it’ll hit the bestseller-lists.
(How come that I have a feeling of having seen that house before? 😉
As for that two star review….well, I guess everyone can’t have good taste. 😉
Looking forward to this launch!!
The cover turned out great. Thanks for posting this. It’s interesting that non-U.S. authors have different struggles.
Ann
This looks great Dorte! I’m so excited for you. Hope it is a runaway smash hit.
Good luck with the book – I’ll be writing about it. I didn’t know about Smashwords before.
Clarissa: what shall we do? I can´t wait either!!! 😀
Margot, my ambassador 😉
Ellen: it´s good to see there are some people who believe in me. And you have probably visited me so often that you have come to love my beautiful cover 😉
Kelly: what a great point you made there 😀
Ann: yes, but basically I think we have a lot in common. At least I feel that new authors are very good at sharing advice & encouraging each other.
Margaret: thank you so much! Smashwords are a great place of beginning because it feels much less daunting than the Amazon giant 🙂
Hi Labanan
Nice to meet you, and thanks a lot!

I’ve come over from Margarets blog, good luck with your new book. I’ve never heard of Smashwords either.
Thank you, Irene; and nice to meet you. Everybody knows Amazon, but Smashwords is a great little platform that offers much more flexibility for writers (and a much better deal).
